Haleakalā

This is on Maui, at Haleakalā, or House of the Sun, so named because the sun was lassoed here by Māui to lengthen the day in order to help his mother, the goddess Hina dry her tapa.

Below is the Haleakalā silversword, a threatened species found only Maui at an elevation of 2-3,000 feet.
